Soil Type: A GOOD general purpose potting soil (a soil that retains water yet drains well) mixed with a little peat will suffice. If you want to mix your own take: 2 parts coarse sand or perlite, 3 parts peat and 2 parts humus (leaf mold) Always use a pot with a hole.
Watering: Keep the soil barely moist. Use warm water. Remember to reduce watering in the winter.
Fertilizer: Feed every two weeks spring through fall with a water soluble fertilizer diluted by half. An alternative is a granular slow release fertilizer if applied annually in the early spring.
Plant Pests: Prone to scale and aphids. Always inspect any new plant for pests before introducing it to your home or greenhouse.
Propagation: Division of rhizomes and spores at anytime. After dividing the rhizomes replant in the plants regular potting mix.
Gardening Tips & Care: Place pebbles or gravel in the drainage dish to hold water and increase the humidity, make sure the pot is sitting on the gravel and not in the water. Mist frequently with warm water (lime free to avoid leaf staining). This plant goes dormant in the autumn until the spring. An ideal plant for a hanging basket.
Air Purifier: A good remover of formaldehyde, benzene, toluene and trichloroethylene from the atmosphere.
