| Description: |
Fruit the familiar table pineapple. These are quite possible to produce in a light warm situation. |
| Environment: |
Suitable for the home or a greenhouse |
| Lighting Needs: |
Does best in full sunlight coming from the South/West |
| Soil Type: |
A GOOD general purpose potting soil (a soil that retains water yet drains well) and an equal part coarse sand. If you don't like this recipe, try 1 part peat to 1 part coarse sand. Always re-pot new plants to ensure the quality of the soil.
Always use a pot with a hole.
|
| Watering: |
Keep the soil evenly moist and if you use rainwater, be careful as it could be acidic. Use warm water. |
| Fertilizer: |
Feed every two weeks with a water soluble fertilizer diluted by half. This can also be absorbed through the leaves, so it may be applied when misting. |
| Plant Pests: |
Prone to mealy bugs and scale. Always inspect any new plant for pests before introducing it to your home or greenhouse. |
| Propagation: |
Offsets with roots attached
in the spring.
Using a sharp knife remove the offset with roots from the mother plant. Pot it in its regular mix.
|
| Gardening Tips & Care: |
Mist occasionally in the summer with warm lime free water and repot in the spring. Cut off flower after it dies and make sure the plant has good ventilation. Water should kept in the cup of the plant.
