Soil Type: Use a GOOD (a soil that retains water yet drains well) rich potting soil (like an African violet mix) with a little added sand will suffice. If you want to mix your own take: 1 part peat, 1 part garden soil and 2 parts coarse sand or perlite. Always use a pot with a hole.
Watering: Keep the soil barely moist and if you use rainwater, be careful as it could be acidic. Use warm water.
Fertilizer: Feed once a month using a nitrate-free, water soluble fertilizer diluted by half, withhold in the winter.
Plant Pests: Prone to thrips and scale (rarely). Always inspect any new plant for pests before introducing it to your home or greenhouse.
Propagation: Division and leaf cuttings (let the cut end dry out first) in the summer. Propagate them in evenly moist soil, mist occasionally and keep in filtered sunlight until they are growing. Leaf cuttings will not produce the yellow-edged leaves but will revert to the barred form.
