You could be watering your Schefflera too much or not enough. If you just bought it, it needs time to adjust to the lower light levels. Give it bright light and some sun during the day. Water it throughly and let the soil dry out between waterings. Don't feed now, only in the warmer months and very little.

I inherited a Schefflera from an office mate about ten years ago. At the time it was a couple feet tall. Since then I have replanted it in 13 inch diameter (top) pot 12 inches deep. The plant has grown to about ten feet tall, still a single stem only about one half inch diameter. I have supported it in two places with string suspended from the ceiling. Is this normal? Can you stimulate rooting on the stem and cut it off to replant for a more bushy plant? Any other advise? Thanks.

I had the same exact problem. I cut off about 1' of the plant and am trying to root it and then pot it in another pot. Anyone know if you can root a shiffalera plant or should I just put it into new soil?
Thanks!
