I have a bamboo plant that is in a container growing in a pepple mixture. I'm a little confused as to how to care for it. When I see bamboo in my local grocery store, it is standing in a container of water and it seems fine. I have had my plant in water since I got it about 6 months ago (I put the container it's growing in in water). It is getting brown and I just don't know if I'm caring for it correctly. I know it's supposed to be wet but should I be keeping it in water or should I be watering it every day instead? Also, should I transplant it into dirt or should I keep it in the pepples that it came in? Please advise. Thank you.

I have a curly bamboo plant I too bought from a Grocery store. (curly bamboo is just like reg bamboo, it's only grown differently). I keep it in a glass Sobe container w/ large polished stones and water. Fill the water so that it's only 2 inches deep, any more and it could rot your plant. This is probably why it's turning brown. Either that or it's getting too little or too much sun. Also, they don't like cold weather, so keep it indoors. We live in the woods, so very little light gets into my room, but the bamboo seems to faire well and is growing fine! Another thing is that your plant could be diseased. If you're really concerned, just bring it to a local plant shop/ greenhouse and I'm sure they can help you figure out what's wrong and how to fix the problem. Any additional questions, email me. I'm only 18 but I love caring for both plants (bonsai, bamboo, alocasia polly, ivy, and other interesting plants including venus flytrap) I also excel in animal care (that's everything, from mouse to horse!) so email me if u have any Questions. =)
