I have a very large peace lily that I recieved from a funeral. The larger leaves are starting to look very sad, browing at the edges and such. My question is should I cut out the larger older leaves to make room for the younger ones to keep the plant healthy? Also I was curious to know if a peace lily is able to be devided by just cutting the root ball in two, as you would a day lily or a hosta. This plant means a lot to my husband and myself as it was his fathers passing that we inherited it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreaciated.
Thank you,
Tricia

The browning on the edges is due to the soil being either too wet or being too dry, also, over feeding can cause this to happen as well. Spider plants and a few others are known for this happening. If some of the larger leaves look too scruffy for your liking, you can cut them out down to the soil. Yes, you can divide this plant like a hosta, either in small sections or right in half. This plant likes bright indirect light, no direct sun or the leaves will burn. Keep the soil evenly moist, when the top couples inches dry you can water. Diluted fertilizer used very infrequently throughout the spring/summer months.
