I HAVE A SCHEFFLERA UMBRELLA TREE AND THE LEAVES ARE TURNING BROWN AND DYING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE TREE UP. IT IS SUCH A LOVELY TREE AND I DON'T WANT TO LOST IT.
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? AND WHAT SHOULD BE DONE TO KEEP ME TREE ALIVE?

Might be too much water, check the roots, they should be firm, white and healthy. If brown and mushy, trim them off and lighten up on the watering. Scheffs do tend to drop lower leaves as they get taller but not at an alarming rate.
Or could be dry and not enough water, if they are crispy.
Only you know the difference.
Make sure the plant is not over potted. There should be no more than 1 inch in soil between the rootball and pot.

How do I keep this plant from being so leggy? I have started breaking out the tops of the plant to try to get it to bunch out and be fuller. Let me know what is the proper way to take care of this plant. Thanks.
