we have plants in our office and have a knat problem. we think they are living in the soil but do not know how to get rid of them. My secretary has been spraying Raid for house plants on them but they are still here. Any suggestions?

Your keeping the soil too wet. Let the soil dry out between waterings, keep the soil moist not soggy. Gnats won't harm the plant thank goodness, but they thrive on wet soil. They hate a dry environment. I would repot the plant into fresh soil to eliminate any eggs or larvae they have left behind.
Good luck:)

I had the same problem. It's from larvae in the soil. The more gnats you have, they more larvae they leave. To kill those gnats use hair spray - try to spray them around outside of pot..or when flying around. I tried not to spray plant directly, unless it was a MISSION IMPOSSIBLE. You must get rid of those annoying pests. You can always wash off the hair spray. Repot and change soil. If you can, check the soil before buying.....or let it dry out completely before using when you get it home. Dry soil will kill all larvae.
