These plants are fairly new on the market in the States (although I can't tell from your email address where you live - they have been popular for a few years in Europe.)
The scientific name is Syngonanthus chrysanthus - they are swamp plants and like to be quite cool, and many houses are too warm and have air too dry for them to be happy. I can only suggest giving the plants plenty of light, and set them in the coolest room in the house. Don't give any fertilizer at all - and I really do mean none.

I have never tried these myself (South Florida would be instant death0, so the above are just ideas from first principles. Good luck. derek

Hey,
I got this plant awhile ago and it seems to be doing poorly.... the long stems are starting to all fall over and break/bend in the middle forcing the tops to flop over.

Any suggestions or know anyone who could help me? It would be great... I ended up cutting off the broken ones, but not too short, hopfully they grow back?

Write me back ASAP, thx.

I have just bought a mikado gold plant, I asked at the shop for any infothey had and how big would they grow? They knew very little as they said they are a new plant and they thought it would be a case of trial and error!! They did say that when the flowers die you should cut them down and they would grow again so you should be ok (that's if they are right). Any info on these plants would be gratefully received as at the moment it looks lovely and I would like to keep it that way. It would be interesting to know what part of the worl you live in to see if there is a difference in how they survive, I live in the UK but as I have only just bought it as yet have nothing to report, when I have I will write again.

I just bought a Mikado about a month ago and it has been doing fine, but last week the leaves turned gray and the flower stalks started to bend and break. Much of the information I have found is conflicting, but it seems that they are most comfortable in a humid envirionment at about 26 degrees C. One site sugessted keeping them in a bathroom. I'm going to try that, and if mine perks up I'll let you know.
