I've had this peace lily for a few years. It seems to be doing fine except for some black leaves. The leaves are quite large and black will start to appear on the outside edge and work it's way down the leaf. The black portion of the leaf has the texture and sound of a brown paper bag. I have noticed a little bit of black on a couple of new shoots as well. Also, the outside edges of the leaves appear to be shredded. I assumed this was from my kitten playing with the leaves but now I think it is the plant itself. Any advice?

Black leaves are an indication of over-watering, cold, over fertilizing or possibly a fungus. Let the top couple inches dry between waterings and have good drainage as well. The plant should be on the root-bound side, so keep the pot somewhat small. I'd also think about moving your plant out of kitty's reach to some higher ground if you can.
