Dear Liz Sounds like you have been over watering your violets...I have found the best way to grow these plants are in the double pots which are available at home depot, sometimes Walmart and some Nursury centers where the pots are sold. Just put water in the bottom part and use the inner one to plant your violet and let nature take it,s course....mine bloom constantly and do not need to be watered from the top. Also, in the winter, mine prefer a more sunny window, (half a day) and move th em in the warmer months to a shadier location. Good luck, Carol

thats just it i have been watering from the bottom of them and these plants are in those doulbe pots. i find i have better luck with a bowl under my pots then a double pot and i use a grow light in my kitchen to nursery My smaller plants. last year i found several of my larger plants shooting offsprings from the base and under the edge of the soilwhich i transplanted into pots and they where doing great with the rocl beds under them now they are just dying the stems turn to mush and bye bye plants.
