How can you start a plant from a plun? I've heard it can be done.

You could do it, but I don't think that it is really worth while. Apart from the very long time that it will take before there is a chance of fruit, there is no knowing what sort of fruit you will get - may be better, may be awful, but almost certainly will not be the same.
You would do something like this: take off all the flesh and soak the hard pit (seed) in water for a day or two. Put it in a plastic bag with some moist sand or pear or somthing that will keep it moist but not in a soggy condition. Seal the bag and put it in the refrigerator for four or five months - check from time to time to see that it isn't too wet. Take it out and plant it about an inch deep in soil, and put the pot outside for the winter. If you are lucky it will start growing in the spring.
So - it's up to you, but I think it is a lot of effort to go to. derek
