My anthurium is starting to get a tall stem (root structure?) below its leaves and above the soil. It has one stem, produces an occasional flower and does seem to keep its leaves so I figure that the environment is good. Someone tells me that I should place mulch around the base since the plant grows in a tropical environment and is used to having leaves and twigs around its base. This does make sense to me, does anyone concur? Should I just leave well enough alone? I have had this plant for about 3 years and it was seperated from its parent by plant division. It is growing in potting soil.

Follow what your heart telling you, if you really want to agree with your friend. Go a head to be honest with you, to me your plant seems to be doing fine.
