You can prune any of the long stems back just "above" any of the leaf axils (where leaf stems meet branch) Where you make the cuts, new leaves will grow.

You can try it, but there is a good probability that the stem portion might rot.But hey, anything is worth a try!

just thought I'd add that I have successfully rooted branches that I have cut. It was a drastic trimming but new branches grew and the cuttings rooted in plain water as well.
