It looks kind of like a Truffala Tree to be honest, but I'm no botanist and I have a hunch truffala trees aren't real.
SO, any suggestions? It has a trunk, like a little tree almost, that is about a quarter inch thick and a foot tall and that has been sort of cut off and cauterized (or something) so that it won't grow out the top, just along the side. Along the side there are small branches coming off it starting about half-way up. The branches are these thin little arms with green finger-like leaves that sometimes are wide and leaf-like but are never more than an inch or so long.
I'm sorry, that's a terrible description, but it really is a strange looking plant. It belongs to my roommate (who has no clue where he even got it from) and I'm trying to bring it back to health though it's really tempermental. Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

If you want a name, please send me a picture (derek@horticulturist.com) - yes, your description doesn't help me much. If you want to get it to live and thrive, all you need to do is to master the watering - very careful drenching of the soil, then no more water until the top inch or so is dry, then drench again. That is all apart from a nice warm, light situation. No fertilizer, no snake oil from the hardware store and no repotting. Derek
