I have an umbrella tree that is almost 30 years old. During a recent move, some of the branches were broken and it looks as if the stem where new growth typically comes from is also broken. Is there any way to save this tree which has been in my family since my birth?

If the break is somewhere up on the stem some, you can cut it back below the break down to the next leaf joint, new leaves will grow near where the cut made.
