I wanted to know how to take care of my calandiva plant. The instructions that came with the plant were very vague. Some of the leaves are turning brown, but the rest is healty looking. How can I better care for my plant?
Thanks- Kylie

I just found out the a plant I received last year is probably a calandiva. It's flowers were multipetaled and lasted for months in a cone shape mass over large base leaves. Offshoots started when flowers were almost gone. Now the offshoots have roots coming from their joinings to the main plant. Can I just cut and plant in a good growing medium?

Joy, almost any bit that you take off (including a leaf if you are lucky) will root and grow away vry happily.Treat them just like your older plant and you should have some nice plants to share with your friends. Derek

I bought this plant about a month ago. I water it about once a week, trying to be careful not to over water while not under watering it. Now all the flowers are dead, the leaves are turning brown and I cant figure out why because I keep it in bright light everyday that I can. But I am a college student living in a dorm, and I don't know if the dry air could be affecting it. Why is my plant dying?

I received this plant from my boss for Administrative Day last year. It was beautiful with flowers and now it is a big beautiful green plant. Just wondering if anyone can tell me if it will bloom again? I love the flowers. thanks for any help I can get.

I am replying to my own message. I found out that this plant will only bloom again if you really knowhow to take care of it, as in greenhouse experience. Oh well, it is a beautifull green plant and looks great in my office.

Carmen, I think that you ae being a bit pessimistic. It is true that to get the wonderful compact mass of flowers that your boss bought for you, you need to manipulate the length of night and day that your plant is getting, but if you can keep it in a room that doesn't get light in the venings - and give it about six weeks ther, you should bring it abck into flower. It isn't the easiest task, but easier than growing a good poinsettia at home (which is next to ipossible). Anyway, at the very least, enjoy the living green thing, and perhaps your boss will give you another in flower next Administrative Day. Derek
