Hello,

I purchased some of the moisture retaining potting soil, now my plants are too wet. How can I safely dry them out? I am afraid to repot them, because of the shock. Will adding sand to the top of the plant pull out some of the water? Thanks Harlan

If you pull all the plants out of their pots and they keep their "pot shape" then pull away any of the wet loose extra soil which should help them dry faster. Set them on their own bunch of newspapers without their pots for a few days which will absorb a lot of the excess water. You'll have to change the papers when they get really wet. Sand will do nothing.

Make sure all their pots are only an inch bigger than each plants root-ball, any larger means extra wet soil and rot. Spring and summer are really the best times to re-pot anything and only if they absolutely positively need to be, new plants should never be re-potted right away since they need to get adjusted into their new homes without more added stress plus, most plants do better on the pot-bound side.
