My wife has a vineing plant, it was her brothers funeral. It is now a great big ball of vine. Only place that has leaves is at the end. What is the best way to shorten it.

If she trims it way back within 2 foot of the plant, will it die? She also thought about cuting the end of and put in water to start roots from the cut of part.

Any ideas is surely welcome from you.

tks

heres sum advice.. yes you can cut it and stick it in the ground with plenty of compost in it..it will not die, as i have tried this before. and also the stock which you cut off will probably grow more leaves as its roots are still in the ground. so therefore you will infact have two seperate plants eventually.. good luck and let me know what you descide to do.. hope this helps..and just remeber nature takes time.. the plants might take 6-8 weeks to start growing new leaves depending upon many factos.. so good luck..
