Ok, I just got this today...and didn't really pay attention to the soil or rocks until I got home....well, there are rocks on top of the soil and they are glued together. Has anyone ever seen something like this?? How can I water it and how do I know if it even needs watered if I can see the soil??

Please help!!!

Some places glue the rocks together for shipping and to hinder plant growth so it doesnt outgrow its pot to fast. I prefer to take something and pry the rocks apart. Once they are loose I put them back on top of the soil, but this way the plants can form pups and grow larger.

But if you dont want to break the rocks apart the water will seep through.

I bought a money tree plant last of the year. I love mine and with a little bit of care it is a beautiful plant.

My plant was like that as well...I know it isn't good to repot a plant unless it is needed but, I have found that when buying a plant sometimes (especially from some retail stores) they tend to over water the plants. When I repotted my money tree the soil was soaked (I hadn't watered it in a weak before I repotted it since I had purchased it and still the water under the rocks was filled with water)

I have gotten into the practice of repotting plants if I buy them in certain retail stores...just so I know what type of soil it has and so I know that the soil isn't drenched with water. I used to work in a retail store and the amount of plants they wrote off every year was very sad.

Just make sure you don't put your money tree in to big of pot they do not thrive in pots to large for them.

I actually loved the look of the rocks on top of the pot but...I don't water my money tree on a schedule I water it when the top 10-20 percent of the soil is dry so it was hard to do with the rocks on top anyhow if I hadn't replanted it.
