This is a house plant that I purchased at the local grocery store. Can anyone tell me the name and/or species? It has thick green leaves, pointing upward. In the photo, you can see three new stems (light green) pushing up too. One leaf has a brown tip, either from the dry air or...? There's also a lot of calcium-like deposits on the soil surface. Any help would be appreciated. :)

Hello, your plant is Zamioculcas zamiifolia. It is an interesting aroid that makes a nice houseplant. Here is a link to a Wikipedia page about it, and you can certainly Google for more info. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZamioculcasGood luck with your new plant, Ann from www.North-Florida-Garden-Guide.com

To answer your question on how to insert an image, you need to upload the image somewhere online if it's a photo you have in your computer like on the Photobucket site ( http://photobucket.com/ ). Then you can just copy the IMG code from Photobucket that's with your photo (on that site simply clicking in the IMG code space will automatically copy it for you) and then paste it wherever you want it in your post. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Almost a year has passed! The plant is doing very well, it's in a bright spot by the window and I water it sparingly.
