I have an anthurium crystallinum with beautiful ornamental leaves and it is growing quite well. However, I don't like the spathe. It's so insignificant! If I cut off the spathe, will it harm the plant? I'd love to get some info on this. Thanks in anticipation!

Hi Indian,

Its ok to remove the spathe as it starts forming, otherwise hold off till its fully matured before removing. Pinching out the growth points will encourage bushy growth.Warning the sap and all parts of the plant can cause skin irritation and if ingested will cause stomach disorders. Anthurium Scherzeianum and A. andraeanum have the best flowers out there but their foliage is less distinctive so if possible mix them with A.crystallinum.
