What would cause the leaves of my shamrock plant to have white spots all over them, but I can't seem to see any insects.

Susan, these are probably the marks left by spidermite feeding. This is a common sight at this time of year.The creatures may have left, but try rubbibg your thumb over the underside of a leaflet. If there is any appreciable smear the mites are still there. You can try soap and water on them, but you would have to get complete coverage to be effective.
Your plants may be going dormant soon (some do, some don't) so that will give you a fresh start next spring.derek

my green leaf shamrock has white spots on the leaves and is not thriving. My purple leaf shamrock is fine and doubled in size. I'd appreciate any help you can give me. Thnks in advance.

I don't know where you live, but in some areas (South Florida, for example) the shamrocks (types of oxalis) either get a leaf disease and lose their leaves or just naturally go dormant during the summer. Mine come back perfectly well in the spring, so you may not have anything to worry about -can't tell you for sure, though. Derek

hi,
i have a shamrock plant that was big and beautiful and then almost all at once it was covered with white spots. i tried everything including "resting" it.
then i took it out of the pot to discover that it was so root bound it wasn't funny. i took a few of the healthy looking roots that still had flowers on them and repotted.
within 2 weeks i have 3 new shamrock plants that are doubling in size almost daily and NO WHITE SPOTS.
amazing that just repotting solved the problem.
