Our 10 year old indoor citrus tree grown from a seed has sticky liquid dripping on to the floor, plus it has fine webs everywhere. I have tried spraying alcohol water without success. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I see no scales anywhere. We really don't want to lose this tree, and it will be a month before we can put it outside for the summer, as we live in Iowa. Thank you.

The webs sound like spider mites. Are the leaves also yellowing and falling off? The spider mites are very small and can be seen on the underside of the leaves. If this is the case you will need to treat the plant to save it.

the sticky liquid could be the honeydew. do you see ants on your tree or in the pot? if its a heavy infestation you might have to resort to insecticide before you end up losing your plant.

Shower time! its a cheap solution the washing away the bugs living all over your plant, or if it re-occurs do both at the same time, Spray with houseplant insecticide and spray down with the shower hose for as long as needed.

If it is not to big of a plant.. and the soil isn't loose (other wise use a piece of board with a small opening cut into it for stems to fit through) I hold them upside down in warm water till all the pests drown.
