My husband recently passed away and I received several peace lillies. Each are doing very well, but I now have gnats, which I did not have before.

If they are from the plants, how do I get rid of them?

Hope you've found a solution. I don't really have knowledge on this either, but just found the following links (together with a link to your question) and thought I'd send them along. SMH

Also, I was told that its better to water our our peace lily from the bottom up (by watering into the plate that the pot sits in), and this seemed to get rid of them for that plant. It keeps the soil at the top dry. Although I also read that you need to empty the plate after 30 minutes to avoid root rot...

Below are the links.
