I bought this at a discount store's garden center, and the grower labeled it only as a "tropical plant," with no species or anything. A coworker thought at first I had a pineapple in a bag! The leaves remind me a little of a bromeliad. Anyone ever seen a plant like this before?

I have one of these plants in my indoor garden since July 2001. It came from a flower arrangement at the funeral of my wife's mother. It grew straight up to over eight (8) feet tall. When It reached my ceiling, I cut off the top, stuck it in a small flower pot of water to see what would happen. It lived, and sent out four (4) new shoots which I repotted and gave to my daughter. Someone said it was a pineapple plant, but I have not been able to find out for sure. I hope you get a response. I'll be watching!

I noticed that you have not received a response regarding your inquirey to date. If you have not found out what this plant is, you might try this sight. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/However, if you do know what plant this is, can you post it to this sight for me. thanks

Nope not a pineapple. It's a dracaena compacta, nice work on propitiating it!
