Hello, I'm new to this forum and have been desperately trying to figure out what kind of plant I have on my hands so that I can properly care for it!

It was given to me by a friend who found it in their office building-- it had been pretty neglected and no one wanted it, so she gave it to me. I trimmed away a lot of dead stuff and it's starting to look better.

(I'm posting links because the pictures are rather large)

In this first one, you can see how the main part of the plant isn't under the soil, it's kind of just hanging on by a small brown root.

If anyone has any ideas, they would be much appreciated!

It's a philodendron. It needs a moss pole to climb on that's why it looks like a bunch of tangled jewelry. It's a shade plant so get it out of the sun. Find a pot with good drainage that is just a little larger than the one it's in and plant it in the new pot with a moss pole or a foam pole that it can be either tied or pinned to with florist pins (they are U shaped so the little U's go around the stems never through the stems).

Philodendrons are easy to care for, they will tolerate mid to low light (less light less water) and like to dry out between waterings. Never put them in direct sun, but bright indirect light will make them grow faster.
