I was given this plant 1yr ago. @ the time, it was much smaller, now it's flowering/growing like crazy! :)

Clearly, the plants loves the south window sun & plenty of water. I was told it was an Elephant Ear, but now that I look to photos of those, I see that the leaves of my plant, Elli, are not heart-shaped, but 1/2 hearts... The underside of the leaves is a lovely reddish colour. The flowers range from pale pink to deep red.

New stalks are seemingly coming straight from the soil. How can I separate this new growth? I want the plant to stay healthy, obviously & I'd like to share it with some friends. :)

I can't figure out how to post pix here, so I'm linking to my facebook album.

Ideas?
TIA!

Looks like the "crown" of the plant consists of only one plant, therefor you should not divide it because you won't get root stock on the new pieces. Maybe you found this already, but these are so easy to propagate by cuttings so you can share with friends. Check out www.botanicsonline.com for my blog. Thanks!
