I have an indoor coffee tree that is about 30 years old, six feet tall, blooms slightly and produces a few beans. Having problem of some leaves turning brown around the edges and then getting yellower, finally leaf or leaves dry up and drops. It has new growth, It is in a heat pump environment room, near east facing windows with drapes (think enough for filtered light). When leaves fall the are crispy and crumble in hands.
Is this lack of water? Lack of food? Also does this worse in winter and is also in a room with a fireplace that we burn in evening on cold days. Should I mist it every day. Also, I don't know how much fertilizer to apply at a time. Will MIracle Grow do the job and how much? It has about 100 to 120 lbs. of soil in the planter.
Also about pruning, it reaches to the ceiling. Would it help if I cut it back? Not sure how to prune it.
I don't want to loose it as it is so old and pretty. Does it need to be transplanted? I put it in a bigger pot about a year ago and it had a growing spurt. In transplanting, should the root ball be loosened around the roots, or do they get mad if one disturbs them?
Someone, please help me.
Thanks
