Hello,

I would like to plan from now everything regarding my vacations and of course plants are a priority. I had some ideas and I would like to hear others ideas also, tips anything that will help us with the watering of our plants while on vacations. Some of us we don't have and/or trust to give anyone the keys of our house, so we must prepare our watering setups for our plants.

First of all I thought of a cheap solution with an IV tubing-->
They are very cheap, (check the website also) and can be bought from any medical supplier.

I made an image out of photos,to help you understand my idea.

materials:
* a large water bottle or a bucket or any other similar container
* IV medical tubing

Another similar variation of the above would be to put one or more water bottles upside down into the dirt.

On this webpage there are also other tips.

Have you tried anything of the above and if so is it working? Or do you have any other idea to share?

Let's share our thoughts on this, I believe many people will find it useful.

You may already know this and if so disregard my suggestion but you will have to make sure that the bottom of your water bottle is placed somewhere above your plant to make sure that gravity will actually draw the water from the bottom to the plant. It is a nice idea though because you can regulate the flow very easily. How much do those IV drips cost, by the way? If they are relatively inexpensive this would seem like the best solution to your problem.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Yes, you are right about that, otherwise the water will stay in the bottle.

The cost of those IV things is $1,00 each and maybe can be found cheaper. Here in Netherlands I saw yesterday in an office, similar drippers like the IV dripping idea and they must be sold from gardening stores. But in noway I don't think they must be cheaper than the medical IV dripper.

So, next step is... to get many 2 litter bottles of water

mmichy, finally I used something else with cotton strings. You can see the presentation here: LINK.
Sorry it's an automated translation from Google but I believe it is understandable.

For 1 month and if the conditions are inside the house with room temperature it worked fine for me.
