Watering according to plant's native or local season? Options

Should plants be watered according to the season where they are native or according to the season where they are planted?

For example, I have a Spear Sansevieria (Sansevieria cylindrica)native to Angola. in Angola, December is in the rainy season with mild to hot climate. But the plant is in New York City where its cold with snow.

How should I treat this plant?
