Leaves on dendrobium canes fall off naturally after spiking, but do not remove the cane because it continues to produce food and new canes after the leaves have fallen off. Make sure no water gets in the crown of the leaves/cane this can easily lead to rot causing the leaves to fall off prematurely. Do not mist the plant. If you do increase airflow. Are these pebbles in the medium? The orchid bark and charcoal is good but the pebbles reduce airflow w/in the pot. If you are going to use any kind of rock in the medium use lava rock because it's porous and will help stabilize the pot. The "skewer method" is the best method, I've found for knowing when to water an orchid. I bought a pack of bamboo skewers (wooden chopsticks also work) to insert into the medium to tell if the substrate is dry. Only water when the stick is dry. Dens are strange but they have a strong will to live. I had a leafless/rootless cane left for dead sitting in my window neglected for months and suddenly it started to produce a whole new pup. These really thrive on neglect. Clear pots help too so that root condition is visable. :) Same thing happened to me but old leafless canes produce new plants so dont throw em out. Oh and dens like to be really snug in their pots.
orchidgeeks.com is a great forum, without them my orchids would be dead.
I saw your lady slipper in another thread and it's lovely. I haven't tried my hand at terrestrial chids but I hope to one day.

I agree with pladdict. I keep an moving fan in the room where my orchids are, I was told to do that last year.

Also, sorry, I forgot to mention yearly care. When it's in its "resting period" (winter), cut back on fertilizing and water. Find an orchid fertilizer that is 30-10-10 because orchids cant draw much nutrients from the substrate.
