I've seen these plants for sale in various parts of China and have been unable to identify them. I finally just broke down and bought one so I could get a good picture of it.

The seed is a dark, dark green and (if closed) slightly smaller than a golfball. All specimens I've seen have been the same general size - this isn't an unusually large or small one. The pot picture is perhaps 3 inches wide and fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. The plant is currently about 6 inches tall including the pot.

Any ideas? Its seed structure and fleshy stem are reminiscent of avocado - but the seed is the wrong color and too small, and the plant is much slower growing.

Thank you for your efforts!

A coworker helped me identify it - it's Castanospermum australe
