Can I grow any vegetables indoors? I live in an apartment with a shared yard (and very little room indoors, anyway!) but I'd enjoy growing, say, tomatoes inside. Can I do that? I live in southern Ontario, if that helps.

To grow tomatoes indoors, keep them under a grow light for 18 to 24 hours every day. Feed them with a even fertilizer, such as 10-10-10. I also like to use a root stimulator with a B1 additive which also helps with the root development. The ideal temperatures for them are 70-75 degrees during the day and 65-67 degrees at night. When the tomato plants reach 12 inches or more, they may need transplanting to one gallon containers. After 6 weeks or 8 weeks, your plants should be just about ready to begin fruiting them. When they blossom, use a tomotato blossom set to help with the setting of more tomato plants. Another option is, there are types of tomato plants that can be grown in pots which also may be an option. These types of tomatoes include Patio, and Bush varities.

I am a very new gardener, I only got interested about a week ago. My apartment is small, I can't grow anything outside, but I think I'll try Cherry Tomatoes. Thanks!

I now have Sweet 100 cherry tomatoes which are planted in a washed garbage bucket. If this works, here are some images from my blog: I hope they grow lots of tasty tomatoes for me!!

If the bucket doesn't have holes make sure that you don't over water the plants because the excess water can cause issues as the plant develops.

The bottom has open cracks on the feet of the bucket, don't worry.

You can grow anything indoors as long as it can be accommodated by your apartment and the bucket. Aside from tomatoes, you can grow eggplants. They much have the same kind of care needed with tomatoes. Just make sure you apply some organic fertilizers and enough sunlight for the plants.
