so, having plant troubles and the first step in finding an answer seems to be...what is this plant? See pics (flickr is a set link to sev views of the two plants...) Thanks!

as to the troubles...browning leaves. (closeups in the flickr link) 2 plants I've had about a month, 1 repotted 1 not (as a control as I learn), moderate light (by afternoon window), watered once feeling dry several inches down...maybe once a week. Both pots have large drainage holes in bottom. The repotted one was put into bagged potting soil lightened with ~1/4 perlite.

I have had an Areca palm for a year now, and have been having problems for quite some time with it. The main issues I have had with the plant are over watering and insufficient light. If the palm doesn't get too enough light then it will not be able to use all the water in the pot and that may cause root rot.

You could try putting it in a location where it gets more light for a while and see what happens. Just keep in mind that if you have the plant outside make sure you watch it so it doesn't get too much direst sun.

You can keep me updated with how your palm does through email if you would like. Hopefully you will be able to help it.

My email is raven_boy14@yahoo.com.
