Hi all...
I have a Yucca Tree that is reaching my ceiling & need help with a question regarding propagation. I have read how to top it & how to get the part I cut off rooted so that it will start a new plant. My question is this, how do I force new shoots from the bottom section that I topped? I don't want just a wooden stub sticking out of my planter. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks! KG

Air layering is the best alternative, "Trunk cutting or air layering begins by removing the leaves from an area on the trunk and cutting into the trunk until the center is reached. A plant hormone is then added to the cut area and damp sphagnum moss is wrapped around the wound. To keep the moisture in the moss, plastic is wrapped around the entire trunk and tied off with rubber bands. When roots appear, the trunk is cut below the air layering and planted as a separate plant"

Thanks so much for the info! Is the plant hormone the same as rooting powder or is there a specific type of hormone I should use for Yucca's? I would appreciate your input again.
Thanks, KG

I am not aware of any specific rooting hormone for Yuccas.
