i have this "medusa fern" and can't find a listing for it under the ferns heading in the library. Which of the other nephrolepsis is it closest to, and is it a hybrid? part 2....is a different fern(my current obsession...)the rabbit or bear foot fern, are there other ways of keeping one of these without using the moss basket? thanks again! darren

Medusa is the new fern from Oglesby labs - really hasn't been out long enough to get in the books or even to get much an industry response.. They call it Nephrolepis obliterata 'Medusa' It would be a sport, I think, which they are propagating in tissue culture. You can grow the other ferns which you mention in any free-draining mix in a regular pot - it is just that they are easier with respect to their watering in a basket, and look nicer wandering over the edge and rooting. Overwatering is one of the fastest way to kill these off, so get the soil to drain very freely. Derek

I just got info from a nursery and the woman said to fertilize it with 10-10-10 once or twice a month depending on how big the plant is. Keep it out of direct sun. Mist it often under dry conditions (if you live in an apartment where it is usually dry).
