It's most likely slugs doing the damage on your Hosta's. Slugs love to eat hosta's. Garden centers carry different remedies to combat them. You can also use a few little dishes of beer around them, they are attracted to what's in the beer. Once they go in for a taste, they fall in and drown. On a garden show once, the host mentioned copper wire near the base of the hosta's, this prevents the slugs from crossing over to get up into te leaves because they receive an electrical shock.

my hosta's are getting to big they are now starting to flow onto my walkways. Someone told me you can only transplant in the fall. I was wondering if they are able to be transplanted now in May or wil they die if I do it now?
