I recently purchased an Ivy plant. It sits near the front door and gets lots of light. I noticed that the peaves are turning brown and the plants seems to have little spider webs all over it. The brandes are dying. I don't over water it. I don't feed it so what could be the problem?

Gwen, this sounds like spidermite - very common on ivy. Soap and water will do the trick if you are able to hit every mite. Would it be possible to turn the pot upside down, holding the soil in, and dunk it into a bucket of a very weak soap solution? Derek

Thanks Derek. I will try the dunking tomorrow. I am concerned though about the parts that seem to be drying and dying. Do the mites cause that too?

Because mites are sucking insects, they can literally suck the life out of a plant, leaving them yellow, brown, wilted and crispy. Because ivy leaves are thin, it's easy for them to burn to a crisp in direct sun, so bright indirect light is better. If the soil becomes bone dry between watering, that's when you can see trouble with mites which really love ivies with a dry atmosphere. Try to keep the soil a little on the moist side. It's also a good idea to rinse the leaves each week at watering time to help keep the mites at bay.
