You might have soil knats. Try a little household bug spray on the soil and the underneath side of the plant. Should not harm antyhing. Probably a couple of sprays will take care of your problem.

I bought a plant 10-15 years ago in the fall, called "jumbo phy-variety" unsure about the name. At the time it had several leaves that had been damaged by the wind as it had been left outside. I cut those off and the size of the leaf was anywhere from 5-10" breadth and 10" length, but not an elephant ear. It was an ivy. I repotted it in 12" pot. The stem that the leaves grew from where approximatly 3/4-1" in diameter. However never ever again have the leaves grown as large as they did when i bought it. I've cut off runners many times and rooted them easily, but never had the leaves grow as large as the original plant. ITs very hearty and the vine is still larger than the average Ivy. My questions in how can i get the plant to thrive as well as its had when i bought it?
