Pachira needs plenty of light, however, avoid direct sunlight during the hot months of the year because its leaves may get burned. You don’t have to water it very often, but don’t let the soil go totally dry. You could propagate pachiras from cuttings and side shoots.

I have had several pachira plants in my home but have noticed that the leaves were getting discolored and turning to yellow brown and would fall off. Ive gone to several nursuries and they thought it was fungus or bugs. I treated the plants with what was recommended but then I noticed the bark was getting soft and i have lost 2 plants which i have had a long time. I water about 1 every 1.5 to 2 weeks i spray every week with a mister for humidity they never sit in standing water d you have any suggestions i would gretaly appreciate it
Thanks

I WORK AT A RETAIL PLANT NURSERY AND THE SYMPTOMS YOU HAVE DESCRIBED SOUNDS LIKE A CLEAR CASE OF OVERWATERING. I USUALLY WATER PLANTS THAT DON'T NEED A LOT OF WATER APPX. EVERY 2-3 WEEKS. I RECOMEND THAT YOU CHANGE OUT YOUR SOIL. USE UNCLE MALCOMS POTTING SOIL BY WHITNEY FARMS, AND FERTILIZE W/ GRO-POWER LIQUID. BEFORE YOU WATER ALWAYS STICK YOUR FINGER IN THE SOIL TO SEE IF THE SOIL IS DAMP. IF IT IS DO NOT WATER IT. REMEMBER THAT TEMP. IS COOLER IN THE WINTER SO PLANTS DO NOT DRY OUT AS FAST. MAKE SURE THAT THE CONTAINER YOUR PLANT IS POTTED IN HAS DRAINAGE HOLES. IF YOU HAVE A SAUCER UNDER YOUR PLANT MAKE SURE YOU EMPTY THE OVER FLOW OF WATER. IF A PLANT SITS IN A SAUCER FULL OF WATER IT WILL STAY TOO WET AND IN THE END DIE. WHEN YOU WATER MAKE SURE THAT YOU WATER THOUROUGHLY UNTIL THE WATER PORES THROUGH THE CONTAINERS DRAINAGE HOLES. DO THIS OUTSIDE IN A SHADED AREA OR IN YOUR SINK. TRY TO WATER THE SOIL ONLY AND DO NOT ALLOW WATER TO SIT ON THE LEAVES FOR TOO LONG. ANY HOUSEPLANT THAT HAS YELLOWING LEAVES THAT ARE DROPPING OFF YOU CAN BET THAT IT IS BEING OVERWATERED. IF IT HAS BROWNING EDGES THE PLANT HAS SALT TIP BURN. IT COMES FROM OUR HARD WATER. THIS HAPPENS WHEN A PLANT IS ONLY RECEIVING SHALLOW WATER. SO AGAIN WATER THOUROUGHLY AND LESS OFTEN. ALSO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR HOUSEPLANTS DO NOT SIT INFRONT OF A HEATER OR A.C. VENT, WHCIH MAY RESULT IN BURNING LEAVES AS WELL AS DRY OUT THE SOIL TOO FAST. YOU SHOULD ALSO REMOVE ALL LEAVES THAT ARE YELLOWED AND BROWN. BY DOING THIS YOU ARE ALLOWING THE PLANT ROOTS TO CONCENTRATE ON NEW GROWTH. DO NOT BE ALARMED IF REMOVING THE DAMAGED FOLIAGE LEAVES YOUR PLANT BARE. IT WILL PUSH OUT NEW AND HEALTHIER GROWTH. YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE SOIL OUT. I HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU.

I'm a beginner. I bought one of these plants and it's growing very nicely.
I was wondering how to propagate. I noticed the message said cuttings and side shoots. Can someone explain in more detail?
There are shoots on the side of my plant that are big and have leaves and then there are newer smaller shoots. Am I suppose to cut one of these and stick the stem in some soil? If I cut the smaller ones should I wait until it's a little longer?

I found pamela's information on the pachira to be very helpful. i realize that i probably am watering my pachira too much and will decrease a bit.
One more thing... i have noted sticky drops on the back of some of the leaves? does anyone know what causes this and what should be done. i don't see any visible insects, but that probably doesn't mean anything.

I have a Pachira plant, that was doing fine and then ended up with holes all over the plant. It looks almost like slug holes, although it is inside and I have not seen any bugs? Anyone have any ideas? Are they susceptible to a particular bug? Any info is great!

Help, please? I received a Pachira plant as a gift this past Christmas. It seams to be doing fairly well. I'm wondering how & when to transplant this plant into a larger container? The container it is in seems very shallow (2.5 inches in depth & the plant is close to 2 feet tall) I've read that the soil should be mixed with sand for proper drainage, true? Any information will be greatly appreciated!

Can I find the soil that you mentioned at most any nursery?Should this be transplanted into a larger shallow pot? Any information will be greatly appreciated!
