Let the plant grow as long as it wants. Give it as much sun as possible and fertilize every two weeks to a month with water soluble fertilizer. When the leaves start to turn yellow. Stop watering and put the plant (leave it in its pot) in a closet or somewhere out of the way. Let it remain dry and dormant. Then when new growth starts bring it back out and water and let grow and with any luck, you will have beautiful flowers again.

How long do amarillas take to bloom from a bulb? How long do tulips take to bloom from a bulb?

I have not fertilized at all, but plant has grown one foot, since flower has gone. It is in a sun room, which is warm and get a lot of sun. The Amarillas was a gift for Mother's Day in May. How long will it take to turn yellow. Yvonne

I have always grown my Amaryllis outside and they have multiplied every year. I started out with three different color bulbs and now there are at least 4-5 of each. When they bloom you can enjoy the beautiful flowers on the plant or cut it off about 2" above the base of the plant and put it in water in a vase. It's not unusual for there to be at least 2-3 flowers on one stalk blooming at a time. I fertilize them with regular plant food and they are actually very hardy plants. Fortunately here in South La. they can stay in the ground year round since we have a short mild winter.
