How do you care for a poinsettia plant. What methods of watering
and trimming do i need to know about. I have heard that to keep
a stem with lots of pretty, health leaves on it; that you cut it
about the last branch knot near the soil and burn /or heat the
milky white substance that comes out at the end of the stem and
place it back in the soil and keep it watered with warm water it
will last longer in bloom. Will this do even if you do not cut off the stem but keep it watered with warm water and in a cool dark area. Please help me keep my poinsettia's alive and growing.

I received a beautiful Poinsettia for Christmas and it is just now beginning to look a little ragged. I have heard that if you cut it back and leave it in a dark room for a while it will come back next year. Is this true, and if so how would I prune it and what do I do with it.

Dee, please, please read the article referred to in the previous reply. It will tell you all that you need to know, and probably convince you that it is a lot more complicated than the story that you had been told. I hate to be discouraging, but it is quite difficult for the average homeowner to get color at the right time next year. Please read the previosu reply and go to the site mentioned. Derek
