Hi, I have a question. I noticed that last time I watered my plant, that it had like little worms in it. they are very little and like an off white color. I do not see them unless i water my plant. I am not sure what type of plant i have, but i do know that it needs a pole to climb up. The leaves on my plant are still green, and it seems to be growing fine. How do i get ride of these ugly little bugs in my house plant??? PLEASE HELP!!!!

What you might be seeing if these little pest jump some and scurry around in and out of the soil when you water. If that's what your seeing, then you probably have "Springtails" They will not harm your plant, but are still annoying and gross. They like moist soil and eat the decaying material in the soil. To keep their numbers down, at watering time, add a little dish soap to the watering can, or, flood the soil so most of the pest will float up and out over pots rim and into a bucket, then replacing any lost soil with new soil. Changing the soil in the spring is another option, then keep the soil more on the dry side.

The same answer that Susan gave would work if these are the young stages of gnats or shore flies. They will also be discouraged if you let the soil surface dry out between waterings. Derek

My friend said that a great way to get rid of bugs in houseplants is to water them with water which has an SOS pad soaked in it. She says it not only gets rid of the bugs but fertilizers as well. Have you heard of this?
