I just recently bought a bromeliad. The care ticket said the plant would do well in medium light, however; my friend informed me it prefers full light.. Which is it? Can it survive in an office by a window with fluorescent lighting?

The type you probably have is guzmania sp. It is the most common in stores. Anyway,if i am right on the genus name then this plant should have soft green strappy leaves, if so then it likes indirect light. DO NOT PUT GUZMANIAS IN BRIGHT LIGHT. They will burn very easily. It should be just fine in your office if you set it on a tray of rocks with some water in it to raise humidity around the plant.

I just bought a bromeliad at Home Depot but have not information on it. I want to transplant it into a bigger pot but don't know what type of soil it needs. And also, how do I water it? It was bone dry when I bought it and I soaked the soil and from reading other web sites I shouldn't have done this. Thanks, Sandy

I have the same question as Sandy. I can not find anyone who knows how to take care of these things. Mine has soft to med stiffness leaves and has a bright pink cone shaped star burst flower on it. Help?
