i have a plant that i'm not sure what the name of it is. my mom has referred to it as an "airplane plant" and a "clean air machine" -- i received it as a funeral plant without tags describing it's care. i keep losing leaves from it -- i need help. thanks in advance for your help and support

You have what is also commonly called a spider plant/airplane plant (Chlorophytum comosum)
Give your plant good bright indirect light, "no direct hot sun" Water thoroughly when soil is dry.
Diluted fertilizer in the spring/summer months only, and not that often.
You might see some brown tips if you use hard-water which contain minerals, fluoride and Chlorine which is a common problem, no biggy really. Some people use rain, or distilled water, or, let tap water sit out for 24 hours to get rid of at least the the chlorine.
