I have noticed lately that there are pin head sized white bugs crawling around in the soil. There aren't any on the plant itself. I have been looking on the internet trying to find out what these bugs are but have not been able to find out. I found about 6 bugs that are linked to this plant but none of them look like the one on my plant. How can I find out what they are and how to get rid of them. They do not seem to harm the plant but I am not getting any new leaves or blooms. I would really appreciate any advice. My husband received this from his father's funeral so I really want to keep it nice for him.

I just discovered very similar bugs in all of my indoor plants as well. They are tiny and white, almost like larvea of some sort. They hop and swim when I water my plants. I did not have them until I received a Peace Lilly for Easter. There are over 100 of them in each of my small 5 inch pots, and they are more annoying than anything. They haven't done any harm yet, but will they if I continue to let them live in there?

Will it hurt to use garden dust on the soil to get rid of them?

Jamie,

As far as I know, the springtails will not hurt your plant. They are pretty easy to get of, or, at least control their numbers, especially in smaller pots. If you really hate them being there, you can try a few of the ways that was suggested above. Letting the soil dry out is another way to rid them since they thrive in moist soil. Yoru were probably already in the soil when it was bought, not anything you did. Even a peace lily can go somewhat dry for a bit and the leaves WILL wilt, but with a good watering, it should bounce right back.

Puhrgirl.

Personally, I don't use any kind of chemicals for anything on my plants, so I can't say whether the dust would work or hurt the plant or not. Maybe the instructions label would give you a better indication for plant use. Any one of the recommendations above would probably be much faster and safer for you and the plant.

Hi,
I live in Nova Scotia Canada and my lily's are just starting to sprout....some of them are already about 2 inches out of the ground. I have noticed that there are a lot of red hardshell bugs crawling all over them and eating the tender foliage. They are not lady bugs. They are red sort of skinnier than a lady bug but they are bright red and they really caught my eye. What are they and how can I get rid of this?

I am having a problem with some bugs on my plants. Its almost like a white little dot all over the leaves. I have been using an organic bug spray I purchased at homedepot. I have also tried using Windex. The windex seemed to work for a while. They have come back.. Any suggestions?
