a friend gave me two palms that were left outside and they are now really brown in color is there anything i can do to bring them back to green

The brown parts will not green up again. If the roots are ok, not dried out or was over-watered at some point and it's not infested with mites or any other pest, it might send out new fronds (leaves)Don't cut the main stem/trunk or the whole plant will die if it isn't already. Put it where it will receive bright indirect light, no direct sun. Keep the soil semi moist by letting the soil dry out on the top inch or two before watering it thoroughly again. Don't fertilize.
