I have purchaced my second majestic palm for my living room. The first got spider mites. I took it outside and sprayed it thoughly with soapy water. It seemed to eliminate the pests but it all turned brown (didn'nt die)so it replaced it. I also repotted it to a larger pot when I first brought it home. Ihave a water softener and I wasnt sure it that was a problem. I occationally furtilize with miracle grow. I want my new plant to do well. I need info on lighting, soil, watering and furtilizer. Any info would be appreciated.

Did you use liquid detergent by any chance?? This will brown out a plant especially if it was a sunny day. These plants love southern exposure indoors...You can feed them every other month. Sorry to say, but spider mites love these palms. You must carefully look at every since leaf inorder to get a clean one form a nursury. I have noticed 90% of all Majesty palms coming out of Florida have spider mites on the under sides of the leaves. Good luck....

Hi there,
this is a very difficult plant to keep...I'm a plant lover and this is quite something, one thing I've learned though is to give it indirect light or late afternon light, try to keep the soil humid, but not wet, what can help is to put pebbles in a tray underneath it, to keep moisure. try to vaporize it regularly, it depends how dry is he air in your home.also if you vaporize it, try to use demineralized water....it might help......... Good luck!
