I have a large column cactus I've had it for 4 years. Resently it appears to be dying from the top. It is dry and grey looking. The rest of the plant that is green is a paler green that it was! Am I over or under watering or does the plant have a disease?

Look real close at the top for ANY pest, maybe spidermites. If you have them, you will see very fine webbing and small almost hard to see dots which are the mites.Use a alcohol and water solution (inch of rubbing alcohol,the rest water) spray the top and surrounding area (COVER SOIL) Spray once a week for a few weeks which should get rid of them.If you miss any they will come back.
Let the cactus top thoroughly dry before putting it back into the sun, or any of the green parts of the cactus will turn white.

I have a large column cactus that is starting to turn white at the tips. This began happening after I moved it, in a car, from San Diego to Chicago in October. I thought it might have gone into "shock" during the 5 day ride (I wrapped it lightly in bubble wrap so it could lay down in the car and not poke me) or considered that I might have overwatered, but I have only watered once a month. It does not appear to have any mites or fine webbing. It gets plenty of sunshine in a cool room near a window. Any suggestions or explanations?
